MAF pilot Ide Gooden flew bishops from the Episcopal Church of South Sudan from the capital Juba to Akobo in the north of Jonglei State for the enthronement of the new Bishop of Akobo.
Bishop Joseph Yoal Yuol took over from Bishop John Jock Chuol, who is retiring after serving for eight years as a Bishop and 23 years before that as a Reverend.
The church leaders were given an enthusiastic welcome at the airstrip as they disembarked the MAF plane.
The bishops spent the weekend visiting with the community before the big occasion.
The rural community faces many challenges including cattle raiding, drought and flooding and a recent influx of returnees due to conflicts in Ethiopia and Sudan.
The enthronement was a time for celebration however, as Bishop Thomas Tut of the Diocese of Ayod, explains. ‘The enthronement of the Bishop of Akobo Diocese was attended by 3,600 Christians,’ Shares .
Bishop Tut is thankful for MAF’s support in bringing visitors to and from Akobo. ‘We very much appreciate the support that MAF renders to Christian ministries in South Sudan.'
