Five international families live at the MAF Goroka base, where each of the women of these families play unique roles for MAF and for the local community.

MAF Papua New Guinea is made up of a large team of staff working on the frontlines, but there are just as many people working behind the scenes who are often unseen. Five women, who with their families are stationed in Goroka, share of the roles they play. These roles support the goals of MAF, both directly and indirectly, to bring help, hope, and healing to the isolated by sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

"I’m not a pilot, I don’t do a big thing, but I can do small things with big love,” said Helen Symmonds when describing her role.

Each woman tells of the differing activities that they stay busy with; Michelle Venter’s hospital ministry, Aartje Paas’ work of HR Support, Glenys Watson’s flying, Helen Symmonds’ prison ministry and Laura Neufeld’s teaching. While they each have their own unique skillset, the women have been able to apply these skills and their personal experiences for the growth of the MAF program and the ministry to those in Goroka and beyond.

The work that they complete not only helps MAF itself, but also enables their family to continue working in PNG. The roles that they fill as wives, mothers, and volunteers are vital roles that help ensure operations continue smoothly and provide good education and upbringing for their children.
