A team of young, passionate student missionaries with Every Home for Christ gain essential computer skills through a course delivered by MAF Technologies, helping them make the most of digital technology while spreading the Gospel.

“While I’ve often watched others use computers and thought it was difficult, this training has taught me a lot about operating a computer,” said Richard Michael, a student missionary, reflecting on the final day of the Basic Computer Training (BCT).

“I am privileged and confident to say that I can own a laptop and be able to apply the skills I’ve learned.”

At 19, with no formal education or computer experience, Richard and his peers in the discipleship training program are passionate about sharing the gospel, undergoing six months of missionary training at the Every Home for Christ Training Centre at Rugli, in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands Province.

“These skills will create a new path for us, opening opportunities to spread the Gospel further, and we are truly grateful for that,” said Richard. He added that they have gained much more than computer skills, also learning to confidently present in class.

Pastor Aron Nikkie, National Director for Every Home for Christ, highlighted the long-term impact of the BCT program, noting how individuals who attended the missionary training school and completed the computer course through MAF Technologies have greatly benefited over the last 7 years.

“We’ve seen missionaries apply these skills in the field, effectively presenting the Gospel through PowerPoint presentations, and this has been an encouraging step in further developing our ministry to bring the Gospel effectively to the doorstep of every home.”

Pastor Aron assured the students that their persistence and commitment to learning new skills would elevate them beyond where they are today.

“The Lord is ready to work through you to share the Gospel,” he said to students during the course graduation ceremony. “So, we train and equip you with skills to enhance your ministry and that you may reach souls effectively.”

Through the key partnership with MAF Technologies, Every Home for Christ has embraced the digital age by offering such training to expand the ministry’s impact across towns and communities. Pastors and missionaries are applying their new skills in their sermon preparation, church administration and presentations.

Johnson Irarue, MAF’s BCT Training Facilitator, emphasised that in today’s world, basic computer skills are essential for Papua New Guinea’s churches and pastors, enabling them to effectively lead their ministries with the right tools.

“As one of the BCT trainers, I often notice when I conduct training in remote churches that they are missing out on many of the resources and skills needed to carry out their work effectively.

“With this computer training, we are trying to bridge a significant gap, to equip remote pastors with essential skills to effectively carry out their ministry in the digital age,” Johnson said.
